Reyn Studios Podcast: Episode 9 - Valerie Morris

ValaireMorris_resized.jpg

Valerie was one of the first people I became friends with upon arriving in Eugene. She is the new owner operator of Eugene Yoga, a studio that has been around for nearly a decade.

In our conversation we dive deep into life, questioning what is comfort, what do we seek and do we dare to go for our dreams. We speak of the trials and tribulations of being a yoga studio owner, a birthing woman, and parent. Valerie’s story includes highs and lows, birth and death. We hear first hand some of Valerie’s ebbs and flows of life and her relationship to yoga and how it helped her heal and handle some of life’s most difficult moments. Her bio as a yoga teacher I have included below straight from the Eugene Yoga website.

This conversation was a dream to have, and I look forward to many more, as I am so lucky to call this woman a friend.

Please enjoy, Valerie Morris,

Peace, Plants, Birth, Death, Life

From Valerie: My interest in yoga began in 1994 while studying mind-body interactions during graduate school. Over the years I've studied several yoga, meditation, and relaxation techniques in pursuit of a better understanding of how mind-body connections affect and enhance health. Always a lover of the outdoors, I love to surf, rock climb, hike and camp. In 2008 a surfing accident resulted in a severe nerve injury that set me on the journey to my current daily practice. I aspire to inspire my students by offering a guided practice that challenges them to grow at their own pace, without judgment. I am honored to serve my students, and hope to see you on the mat soon.

Reyn Studios Podcast: Episode 6 - Geoffrey Roniger

"I was hired for my Soft skills," says Geoffrey Roniger laughing humbly, speaking about working as an adventure guide for Outward Bound. His boss coined the phrase “soft skills” meaning Geoffrey’s compassionate ability to interact with human beings. So humbly Geoffrey brushes this aside during our conversation, but I see it as the key, the core of the magic of Geoffrey. This man breathes compassion, he sees and hears people. Geoffrey makes it a point to know the first and oftentimes last names of every student who walks through his door at Freret St Yoga. The level of care he has for his students and the humans of the world is inspiring and contagious.

As a student of yoga for 25 years and teacher for 20, Geoffrey is a lifelong student of yoga; his teachers Melanie Fawer, Richard Rosen, Rodney Yee and Cathie Caccia to name a few. He is now teaching side by side with his mentors on retreats and teacher trainings. Geoffrey opened the doors of Freret St Yoga in New Orleans in 2011 and continues to offer practices daily on zoom during the time of Corona Virus. Honored to call this man my teacher, Geoffrey is a mentor, a role model and friend. I learned so much from this conversation, and again and again when I re-listened multiple times, and kept learning more. The practice of yoga simply unveils the grace that exists within us all, as Geoffrey says so beautifully, "it is our birthright". So much inspiration and magic in this conversation. I am so honored to share this with you all.

With Love,

Reyn
