Reyn Studios Podcast: Episode 19 - Rebearth 2: First Bleed and Fluid Dream

Here in the Rebearth Series, Phase 2, I am joined again by Garbriella, one of my earliest clients in the Rebearth program. She and I discuss the second phase of the program which is the Coming of Age physiological milestones in the lives of human beings; the First Bleed for Women and the Fist Fluid Dream for Men. We know this can be a bit uncomfortable of a topic, so pop your headphones in and talk a walk with me and Gabriella, as we discuss many of the things and feels that come up while getting curious about how this time in our lives has affected and imprinted upon us; as individuals, families, communities, societies and even globally.

Show notes & Links:

Mindfultarian. This means eating locally, smaller farms, getting to know our farmers, paying what it costs to grow or raise food in truth. This means eating more plants, grains, legumes, learning to soak them, process them throughout the week, growing our own herbs to reconnect with the rhythms of life.  When we choose to eat creature, we eat creatures that have lived a life worth living, that have been fed nourishing foods that support their biology and well-being, that have been cared for with respect and reverence and that have been brought to their end of life journey in a mindful, respectful way.

Rebearth Flush & Juice: 1 day juice flush, where instead of any solid food, you simply allow the body to receive its nutrients through juice. You can find a juicing store near you or make them yourself. And if you don't have a juicer, you can simply blend and drink smoothie versions and water. ***all organic please***

***Please lead into your juice flush  day, with two full days of raw fruits and veggies, nuts and seeds, gently cooked legumes, prior to embarking on your pure juice cleanse day.***

3)16oz green juices: romaine, parsley, cucumber, kale or spinach, apple, lemon

1) nut milk 16oz: almond, cashew, oat with vanilla

1) 16oz: lemon juice, cayenne pepper, turmeric, black pepper, honey, Spirulina

8) 8oz of purified water

The juice fasting is a hard reset to the bodymind. Ideally, for the next 4 weeks you will incorporate one day of juice fasting each week. Pure magic comes from this sort of physical purification and of course it manifests the purification in the mental and emotional realms as well.

Rebearth Series Part 1: Your own Birth Story

Gabriella La Rocca is one of my early Rebearth Clients. She is here to help us understand the work of Rebearth, how the process unfolds and accounts of her real life, real time, major shifts and changes that have occurred in her life as a result of doing this work. Gabriella and I discuss Phase 1 of the Rebearth program, which is diving into our Own Birth Story. How we were born affects who we are today and how we perceive the world. It is through the work of Rebearth that we come to understand so much about life, and how we want to show up in it, for ourselves and for others, each and every day. This is the first of a 6 part series where we will explore each of the Milestones of Rebearth.

Anyone wondering what the Rebearth Program is about; this is phase 1.

Anyone who is in the program, or has already done the program or toying with the idea of doing the program... this is for you.

This is for any human who has been born.

Reyn Studios Podcast: Episode 14 - Elena Tonetti-Vladimirova

Elena Tonetti-Vladimirova' s film Birth As we Know It  changed my life forever. This film is an experience, that has helped recondition the Bodyminds of all those who experience it. The truth is, over the past hundred years, many societies have experienced a degradation of the Sacred Nature of Birth. This Film is a Remembering and a great Reminder of what Birth is meant to be. In all its beauty, love, mystic and even ecstatic experience for Mothers, Babies and their Fathers.

Watching this film is the first homework assignment to my program R E B E A R T H.

This was one of the most incredible moments of my life, getting to connect and share so much time with Elena. She is an role model of mine and has been ever since I experienced her film, just 3 years ago. Her film has helped guide my path ~ and I know it will do the same for you. I hope you enjoy this lengthy and incredible conversation with Elena.

Reyn Studios Podcast: Episode 13 - Susan Cole

Reyn Studios Podcast: Episode 13 - Susan Cole

Today we have Susan Cole in the house to speak about her book, Holding Fast. This book is tale of the Original Digital Nomads, living the dream of living aboard a sailboat and traveling the seas from the coastal Northeast down the coastal US throughout the Caribbean to Central America and back again. John Russel, Susan’s husband, was lead from childhood by an unwavering desire and commitment to living at sea, this is the dream they were following and wholeheartedly living. Eventually they would bring a child into the world, their daughter Kate, she too would live aboard their vessel, the Laughing Goat, and endure adventures that you can feel deep within your bones while reading the novel.

Susan’s ability to capture visceral sensations of tropical seas, the fury of storms equipped with mudslides is uncanny. I felt like I was there, smelling the smells feeling the winds and hearing the calls of the monkeys, I did not want to put it down.

Getting to sit down with Susan was an honor and a privilege, as always, she is my Brother in Law’s Mother iin Law ~ which gave us a good laugh ~ such a nice ring to it. Ha!

For those of you wanting a real life, epic adventure, that so many are portraying across platforms like Instagram, these are original Creative’s, waking up aboard their sailboat, hoping ashore to make their way to work, pitching original Lifestyle branding concepts to huge companies, then making their way back to their boat they called home on the wharf. Eventually they would be flying back and fourth from the Bahamas to Manhattan, even the remote jungles of Guatemala, back to the city to pitch another idea. We are talking the original digital nomads, pre internet.

This is a tail of life, lived to the fullest, following ones dreams, all the way to the end. It’s like having an inspirational “how to do life with a passion” on living your dream, on your bedside table.

Thank you Susan for writing this story. Thank you John for your passion expressed in devotion to the ocean. Thank you Kate for being my Sister-in-Law. Love to you all, Alex and Demian; the Brothers Reed who bring us all together.

Please enjoy, Susan Cole.

I am lucky to have be one of the last students Deb taught at her home in Eugene. This pic is from our final day of Doula training back in November 2019. Deb is on the far right.

Deb is a wealth of knowledge and wisdom. Nearing 40 years of experience, Deb is a mother of 4, and has attended hundreds of births, and taught over a thousand student Doulas.

Deb’s stories are authentic and endearing, brave and inspiring. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did.

Reyn Studios Podcast: Episode 11 - Brit & Case

Brit&Casebirth.jpg

This is the first couple or partners interview telling their intimate story of a home birth and it was just Divine. Britt and Case compliment each other in so many ways, and we get to hear all about it during the conversation. How they met, both of their own birth stories into this world, how they feel their own stories affected the birth of their daughter and the impact it has echoed throughout their lives.

A real serendipitous moment occurred during our conversation, where Case discloses his life as a financial advisor who also is an endurance athlete, and an Ironman competitor. Ever since I gave birth in 2017, I have drawn a connection between endurance sports and birth. One of my greatest inspirations is Rich Roll, fellow podcast host and endurance athlete. I have listened to countless episodes of his, and the parallel nature of birth and these endurance challenges are kin. They seem to have some key similarities; it is a completely internal experience and simultaneously one that feels more connected with Source and to the world than ever before, there is usually a moment or multiple moments of questioning, wondering, “will I survive this event?” and then the miraculous reality that you will, and that your body keeps going, stronger than before.

BirthTub.jpg

It is such a delight to share this conversation with you all, to hear the birthing Mother and Father experience of a gracious perfectly imperfect home birth.

I’d like to mention, that moments after this conversation ended, Britt & Case insisted they return to the story to tell all about postpartum. While this couple had a blissful birth experience, they had a nightmare in the months following. So stay tuned to future episodes for their comeback. Wishing Britt, Case and Tegan a happy couple of weeks, as they will be welcoming a second child very soon.

With Love,

This is a conversation I have looked forward to sharing. An ICU & ER Nurse, Abbie Jacobs shares the empowering, honest and raw stories of her two home births. She also shares with us some insight from within the medical world, what she has seen, witnessed and heard time an time again about medical intervention. We speak candidly about the fact that we don’t have to be binary, there can be respect and reverence for western medicine and at the same time trust in nature and instinct. Abbie explains that for healthy humans giving birth is perfectly safe and even ideal in the home.

We learn about Abbie’s story, the meeting of her Partner and father of her children and their experiences living as River Guides and Tiny Home dwellers.

I am honored and blessed to call Abbie and Eric dear friends. Thank you Abs for taking this time with me to share your stories

Reyn Studios Podcast: Episode 9 - Valerie Morris

ValaireMorris_resized.jpg

Valerie was one of the first people I became friends with upon arriving in Eugene. She is the new owner operator of Eugene Yoga, a studio that has been around for nearly a decade.

In our conversation we dive deep into life, questioning what is comfort, what do we seek and do we dare to go for our dreams. We speak of the trials and tribulations of being a yoga studio owner, a birthing woman, and parent. Valerie’s story includes highs and lows, birth and death. We hear first hand some of Valerie’s ebbs and flows of life and her relationship to yoga and how it helped her heal and handle some of life’s most difficult moments. Her bio as a yoga teacher I have included below straight from the Eugene Yoga website.

This conversation was a dream to have, and I look forward to many more, as I am so lucky to call this woman a friend.

Please enjoy, Valerie Morris,

From Valerie: My interest in yoga began in 1994 while studying mind-body interactions during graduate school. Over the years I've studied several yoga, meditation, and relaxation techniques in pursuit of a better understanding of how mind-body connections affect and enhance health. Always a lover of the outdoors, I love to surf, rock climb, hike and camp. In 2008 a surfing accident resulted in a severe nerve injury that set me on the journey to my current daily practice. I aspire to inspire my students by offering a guided practice that challenges them to grow at their own pace, without judgment. I am honored to serve my students, and hope to see you on the mat soon.

FisherWoman.jpg

Daphne’s Great Great Grandmother, Fisher Woman Helen Duncan

Daphne is a Healer, Medicine Woman, Herbalist, Midwife, Mother, Grandmother, Wise Elder, Mentor, and Entrepreneur to name a few of her talents.  Just being in the room with her was such a gift, and then to have the honor of over three hours of recording time with her over the course of 2 visits was just sensational. We're actually neighbors essentially and that just feels good. I am attaching her bio below so please take a look.

Daphne Singingtree began studying herbs at the age of 12, when she left home to live on her own. It was the seventies: it didn’t seem as strange then as it does now.  She was in the middle of the 6th grade and that was the end of her formal education. She did what is now called unschooling, read books, traveled, learned about what interested her, like herbs and midwifery, when she was 17 without any formal course of study she passed her GED, and did not go to college until her late 40’s.Daphne has also been deeply involved in midwifery education and law in Oregon. She is the author of the Birthsong Midwifery Workbook, The Emergency Guide to Obstetric Complications, and Training Midwives: A Guide for Preceptors. A pioneer in direct entry midwifery, she was a founder and a board member of the Midwifery Education and Accreditation Council, helped write the Oregon Midwifery law, served on the Oregon State Board of Direct Entry Midwifery and was the chair of the Education Committee for the Midwives Alliance of North America. She is the founder of the Birthsong School of Midwifery, the Oregon School of Midwifery, Aviva College and Zaniyan Center.   Daphne's connection with her Lakota heritage is a very beautiful, mystical and magical part of her story that she gets into in the show as well.

Daphne's balanced relationship with traditional Midwifery practice and the momentum of modern medicine and scientific research is what makes her so refreshing to hear from. She knows a lot of scientific data/facts which back up her opinions. Daphne's own births of her four children; 2 home births and two hospital births, she shares these stories on the podcast with such humility, honesty and love. I appreciate Daphne so much and I think you will too... so please enjoy this educational and powerful conversation with the honorable Daphne Singingtree.

Reyn Studios Podcast: Episode 6 - Geoffrey Roniger

GeoffreyImg.jpg

"I was hired for my Soft skills," says Geoffrey Roniger laughing humbly, speaking about working as an adventure guide for Outward Bound. His boss coined the phrase “soft skills” meaning Geoffrey’s compassionate ability to interact with human beings. So humbly Geoffrey brushes this aside during our conversation, but I see it as the key, the core of the magic of Geoffrey. This man breathes compassion, he sees and hears people. Geoffrey makes it a point to know the first and oftentimes last names of every student who walks through his door at Freret St Yoga. The level of care he has for his students and the humans of the world is inspiring and contagious.

As a student of yoga for 25 years and teacher for 20, Geoffrey is a lifelong student of yoga; his teachers Melanie Fawer, Richard Rosen, Rodney Yee and Cathie Caccia to name a few. He is now teaching side by side with his mentors on retreats and teacher trainings. Geoffrey opened the doors of Freret St Yoga in New Orleans in 2011 and continues to offer practices daily on zoom during the time of Corona Virus. Join his classes through instagram @freretstreetyoga

Honored to call this man my teacher, Geoffrey is a mentor, a role model and friend. I learned so much from this conversation, and again and again when I re-listened multiple times, and kept learning more. The practice of yoga simply unveils the grace that exists within us all, as Geoffrey says so beautifully, "it is our birthright". So much inspiration and magic in this conversation. I am so honored to share this with you all.

Reyn Studios Podcast: Episode 5 - Catherine Lightfoot

CatherineLightfootPic.jpg

Catherine Lightfoot changed my life. I met her at 30 weeks pregnant on the bid island of hawaii. There she opened my heart in ways I didn’t know possible. Catherine showed me how to peel back the layers of traumas and realities that had been apart of my life, that had shaped my life in ways I hadn’t considered. Then with courage we looked at them together, I felt supported with love. With Catherine’s support I moved through these traumas with reverence and patience so that I could move forward as a mother, a partner and as my authentic self.

Catherine also taught me of the global elephant circle and how we are all connected, mothers and babies and laboring mothers, and that through prayer, meditation and candle light that we can support each other through our labors and take the power of birth back into our own hands and wombs.

I am overjoyed to share with you all this conversation with the honorable Catherine Lightfoot.

With love, Reyn

Peace on Earth Begins with Birth

I am a mother of two nature-loving, wild boys; partner to a wonderful man (and chef!);  and lover of the earth and sea.  I was a yoga teacher for 12 years before becoming a midwife and my family and I still love to incorporate that deep peace of movement and meditation in our daily lives. I love to sing, dance, garden, hike, snorkel, read and enjoy life and nature! But I’m most passionate about being a guardian of the sacred gate that we call birth; bearing witness to the awakening of a woman’s power; helping inform, heal and protect The Four Baskets- the time frame from conception to six hours after birth.

Although I am a certified midwife (since September 2016), I have also been trained in the ancient art of traditional midwifery and consider myself a new earth community midwife. My skills include use of herbs, massage, song and yoga. I provide a full service of prenatal visits, intrapartum and postpartum care in the home to healthy, low risk pregnant women and their babies regardless of religion, race, alternative lifestyles, or ethnic origin.

I would love to talk to you and see if we are a good match for each other. Please feel free to contact me and leave your email or phone number and I will respond as soon as possible.

Reyn Studios Podcast: Episode 2 - MELISSA PISTONO

MelissaImage.jpeg

Melissa Pistono is a Child Psychologist and Trauma Specialist, Melissa shares her story of how she came to be. Rooted in childhood experiences her purpose in life became clear to her help protect the vulnerable.

In Melissa’s own words, “As a young girl, I witnessed a neighbor beat his son and throw him head first into a wall. As I walked home frightened and confused; I said to myself, "parents shouldn't be allowed to do that to their kids".

That was the defining event for me. In college I studied child psychology, focusing on trauma psychology and domestic violence law. My career included; research on the life time effects of abuse and neglect, treatment for children that have experienced trauma, and work within local judicial systems to better protect women and children victims as they navigate the courts.

In the future I hope to see more effort put into the prevention of childhood abuse and neglect. Mental health programs that help individuals become stronger, more confident, and more self loving.”

This journey took Melissa to many places, law school at the University of Oregon and into judges chambers to help the children be heard. This conversation was such an honor to have, enlightening and honest just like Melissa herself.
