Reyn Studios Podcast: Episode 12 - Debra Catlin

Doulagroup.jpg

I am lucky to have be one of the last students Deb taught at her home in Eugene. This pic is from our final day of Doula training back in November 2019. Deb is on the far right.

Deb is a wealth of knowledge and wisdom. Nearing 40 years of experience, Deb is a mother of 4, and has attended hundreds of births, and taught over a thousand student Doulas.

Deb’s stories are authentic and endearing, brave and inspiring. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did.

In respect, trust & intimacy,

Reyn

Reyn Studios Podcast: Episode 7 - Daphne Singingtree Part1

DaphneSingingtreeIMG.png

Daphne is a Healer, Medicine Woman, Herbalist, Midwife, Mother, Grandmother, Wise Elder, Mentor, and Entrepreneur to name a few of her talents.  Just being in the room with her was such a gift, and then to have the honor of over three hours of recording time with her over the course of 2 visits was just sensational. We're actually neighbors essentially and that just feels good. I am attaching her bio below so please take a look.

Daphne Singingtree began studying herbs at the age of 12, when she left home to live on her own. It was the seventies: it didn’t seem as strange then as it does now.  She was in the middle of the 6th grade and that was the end of her formal education. She did what is now called unschooling, read books, traveled, learned about what interested her, like herbs and midwifery, when she was 17 without any formal course of study she passed her GED, and did not go to college until her late 40’s.Daphne has also been deeply involved in midwifery education and law in Oregon. She is the author of the Birthsong Midwifery Workbook, The Emergency Guide to Obstetric Complications, and Training Midwives: A Guide for Preceptors. A pioneer in direct entry midwifery, she was a founder and a board member of the Midwifery Education and Accreditation Council, helped write the Oregon Midwifery law, served on the Oregon State Board of Direct Entry Midwifery and was the chair of the Education Committee for the Midwives Alliance of North America. She is the founder of the Birthsong School of Midwifery, the Oregon School of Midwifery, Aviva College and Zaniyan Center.   Daphne's connection with her Lakota heritage is a very beautiful, mystical and magical part of her story that she gets into in the show as well.

Daphne's balanced relationship with traditional Midwifery practice and the momentum of modern medicine and scientific research is what makes her so refreshing to hear from. She knows a lot of scientific data/facts which back up her opinions. Daphne's own births of her four children; 2 home births and two hospital births, she shares these stories on the podcast with such humility, honesty and love. I appreciate Daphne so much and I think you will too... so please enjoy this educational and powerful conversation with the honorable Daphne Singingtree.

Reyn Studios Podcast: Episode 5 - Catherine Lightfoot

CatherineLightfootPic.jpg

Catherine Lightfoot changed my life. I met her at 30 weeks pregnant on the bid island of hawaii. There she opened my heart in ways I didn’t know possible. Catherine showed me how to peel back the layers of traumas and realities that had been apart of my life, that had shaped my life in ways I hadn’t considered. Then with courage we looked at them together, I felt supported with love. With Catherine’s support I moved through these traumas with reverence and patience so that I could move forward as a mother, a partner and as my authentic self.

Catherine also taught me of the global elephant circle and how we are all connected, mothers and babies and laboring mothers, and that through prayer, meditation and candle light that we can support each other through our labors and take the power of birth back into our own hands and wombs.

I am overjoyed to share with you all this conversation with the honorable Catherine Lightfoot.

With love, Reyn

Peace on Earth Begins with Birth

I am a mother of two nature-loving, wild boys; partner to a wonderful man (and chef!);  and lover of the earth and sea.  I was a yoga teacher for 12 years before becoming a midwife and my family and I still love to incorporate that deep peace of movement and meditation in our daily lives. I love to sing, dance, garden, hike, snorkel, read and enjoy life and nature! But I’m most passionate about being a guardian of the sacred gate that we call birth; bearing witness to the awakening of a woman’s power; helping inform, heal and protect The Four Baskets- the time frame from conception to six hours after birth.

Although I am a certified midwife (since September 2016), I have also been trained in the ancient art of traditional midwifery and consider myself a new earth community midwife. My skills include use of herbs, massage, song and yoga. I provide a full service of prenatal visits, intrapartum and postpartum care in the home to healthy, low risk pregnant women and their babies regardless of religion, race, alternative lifestyles, or ethnic origin.

I would love to talk to you and see if we are a good match for each other. Please feel free to contact me and leave your email or phone number and I will respond as soon as possible.
